蘆薈是一種常見的多肉室內植物，因其具有藥用價值的凝膠而受到重視，但植物本身對貓有毒。透明的內層凝膠毒性低得多，但如果貓咪啃咬整片葉子，仍會接觸到外皮下方的黃色乳汁層。主要毒性成分是蒽醌類化合物，尤其是蘆薈素／蘆薈苷（aloin/barbaloin），這些成分集中在外皮下方的黃色乳汁層中；此外，葉片中也含有皂苷。 貓咪代謝這些化合物的能力有限，因此可能造成整個胃腸道刺激；若接觸或誤食量較大，還可能引發全身性影響。

• 症狀： 嘔吐、腹瀉（常呈黃色或帶有紅色血絲）、精神不振、食慾下降，以及低血糖；較嚴重時可能出現顫抖和深色尿液。
• 凝膠 vs. 乳汁： 透明的內層凝膠含有非常少量的蘆薈素，毒性遠低於黃色乳汁層。然而，全葉產品或貓咪直接啃咬植株時，會同時接觸到凝膠與黃色乳汁，因此誤食整株植物仍然有危險。
• 處理方式： 將蘆薈植物放在貓咪碰不到的地方。如果貓咬過蘆薈葉，請聯絡獸醫，尤其是在出現腹瀉或精神不振時。
