   呼吸費力（呼吸困難）、咳嗽與液體蓄積（水腫／充血） 12–24 hours after ingestion. · In severe cases, persin toxicity can cause damage to heart muscle fibers, leading to fluid accumulation around the heart (hydropericardium) and in the lungs (pulmonary congestion). While cats are less sensitive to this than birds, it is a documented risk for dogs and cats in high doses.

重要提醒

酪梨對貓有毒，主要是因為其中含有酪梨素 (persin)。這是一種殺真菌化合物，是酪梨樹作為天然防禦機制所產生的物質。人類可以安全代謝酪梨素，但貓缺乏這種代謝能力。 酪梨素會引發危險的水腫，可能發生在肺部、胸腔、腹腔，以及心臟周圍，進而造成呼吸困難。在高劑量暴露下，還可能導致心肌壞死，也就是心臟肌肉組織死亡。 此外，酪梨本身極高的脂肪含量也是另一個風險。即使酪梨素含量較低，高脂肪仍可能誘發貓咪的急性胰臟炎。

• 症狀：嘔吐、腹瀉、腹痛；因肺部積液導致呼吸困難與呼吸窘迫；嗜睡、虛弱，以及腹部腫脹。
• 所有部位都有風險：葉子的酪梨素濃度最高，通常被認為是毒性最強的部位；果皮、樹皮和果核也含有較高濃度。果肉只含有微量酪梨素，但因脂肪含量高，仍有風險
• 果核如果被吞下，可能噎到或腸胃道阻塞。
