Gerbera Daisy (Gerbera jamesonii) is considered safe for cats. It is a better choice than many other plants sold as “daisies,” because some look-alike flowers, such as chrysanthemums, can be toxic. Gerbera daisies are not known to contain the common plant toxins that cause serious poisoning in cats. Still, any non-food plant can cause mild stomach upset if a cat eats a lot of it. Chewing may also damage the plant or leave loose petals around the home. If your cat nibbles a small amount, serious symptoms are not expected. Watch for mild vomiting or diarrhea, and remove the plant if your cat keeps chewing it. Call a veterinarian if symptoms are more than mild or do not improve.
