Brunfelsia pauciflora floribunda
Yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow (Brunfelsia pauciflora), named for its flowers that change colour over three days, is moderately toxic to cats. All parts of the plant contain brunfelsamidine and other steroidal alkaloids. It is a member of the nightshade family and is particularly known for causing neurological symptoms.
Important Notes
Toxic compounds: brunfelsamidine and related steroidal alkaloids; all parts of the plant are toxic
Mechanism: alkaloids affect the central nervous system, causing excitation and then CNS depression
Symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, seizures, hyperthermia; characteristically produces a syndrome that alternates agitation with sedation
Frequently used as a decorative garden shrub in tropical regions — keep cats away from the garden
